About Us
The Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH – WRS) was founded in 1995 as a subsidiary of Verband Region Stuttgart (organisation of local authorities in the Stuttgart region) and other shareholders. Our official task is to promote regional economic development and coordinate all related activities.
Our streamlined company has just 40 employees, including ten from projects subsidized by the EU or federal or state government. Our project-based work calls for intensive cooperation with companies, research institutes, municipal economic developers, chambers and other partners.
We aim to develop and use new instruments for economic development. For example, almost all local authorities in the Stuttgart Region are now marketing their industrial real estate using the region marketing system (SKS) developed by WRS and the online commercial real estate marketplace generated from the SKS. The specialised competence and innovation centres function as a network for companies and an interface to the research institutes in the region, thus greatly benefiting small and medium-sized companies in particular. These centres serve as a model for the whole of Europe.
